Jadi, awalnya bermula di 8tracks.com ketika dimana setiap mixtape yang gw play hampir selalu ada lagunya. Udah gitu namanya kan rada unik, bernafaskan Islam gitu kan nama Sufjan. Lalu, di library iTunes salah satu anak kantor ada satu albumnya doski yang Greetings from Michigan The Great Lake State WOW! makin naksir ijk!! a lot of symphonical folky going on in his music!! indah dan manis deh!
Recently i googled him around, ternyata doski tuh punya 50 states project, which is dia bakal buat album berdasarkan negara2 bagian di Amrik! Project awalnya dia bermulai dari album si album Michigan tadi, trus lanjutannya ada Come On Feel The Illinoise dan udah ada sekilas tentang New York di album The BQE yang terinspirasi oleh Brooklyn-Queens Express dan isinya orchestra cantik kaya di film2 Disney jaman dulu.
Tapi ya setelah ditelaah lebih lanjut, liriknya tuh gak seindah musiknya. Bukan lirik patah hati atau jatuh cinta yang kebanyakan dia jual, tapi a lot of social stuff, labour kind that thing, yah bener2 sesuai dengan keadaan negara bagian yang lagi dia tulis. Bisa kita liat contohnya di lagu tentang Detroit
musiknya super manis dan keren kan? tapi liriknya?

Dan menurut gw yang paling absurd tuh albumnya yang Illinois, judul-judulnya lagunya lebih mirip cerita science fiction! I mean.. what do you expect with a song titled called Concerning UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illonoise or track number 2 called, The Black Hawk War, or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience but You're Going to Have to Leave Now, or, 'I Have Fought the Big Knives and Will Continue to Fight Them Until They Are Off Our Lands!' YEP ITU JUDUL SATU LAGU! Emang instrumental doang sih
Tapi lagu yang cukup indah untuk didengarkan adalah Chicago, lagu romantis tentang sebuah windy city called Chicago
His latest album called The Age of Adz, rilis di tahun 2010 dan udah mulai banyak unsur elektronik di dalamnya, which is i don't really like. haha.. But you know, he's such a genius person in music industry! i love his artworks so fuckin much! looking forward to watch his gigs here in indonesia!
